Two Dreams Continue to Support Victoria's Creative Industries

Kate Boulton had a dream -- that dream was to have a button shop. Buttonmania in the Nicholas Building on Flinders Lane in the Melbourne CBD was the result of that dream. When Kate decided to sell Buttonmania, earlier this year, she looked for buyers who were as passionate, keen and driven as she was. Kate was thrilled when Denise, Edwina and Jean Rook expressed an interest in buying Buttonmania.

Kate discovered that Denise Rook also had a dream.

Buttonmania has always been more than selecting a button. Kate offers specialized services to Melbourne's independent fashion designers, the television and film industries, Australian Ballet, costume designers -- as well as to loyal, longstanding customers who just love making their own clothes.   Kate's bespoke buttons have been worn by Phryne Fisher of "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" and featured in the international hit movie, Australia, -- just to name two examples.

Buttonmania specialties include:

            Advice on fashion styling

            Covered buttons

            Fabric covered buckles and belts

            Eyelets for corsets

Over the past 21 years, Kate has also worked with several generations of students studying at all the local and inter-State Textile, Costume Design and Tailoring courses offered by local private and public colleges and universities.

Luckily for the creative industries here in Victoria, when Kate decided to move into semi-retirement, the Rooks stepped up to the mark, purchased Buttonmania and decided to actively pursue their dream. Kate will stay on as a mentor during the business transition. And Buttonmania, in its current location, remains open through the Christmas season, closing for the move on the 22nd of December.

Denise and her daughters bring with them textile expertise. They are avid knitters and sewers -- with a great eye for detail. The new Buttonmania location near the Train Station in Highett is only a short train ride from Flinder's Street and will open in January.

Through mail order business, Buttonmania has extended its service inter-State. Recently a Brisbane button business closed when the owners retired.   Lucky for their customers, they found that Buttonmania can supply their needs at the high standard of quality that they require.

Anyone wanting to stay apprised of new developments can sign up for Buttonmania's email newsletter at www.buttonmania.com.au. The newsletter now goes out to well over 1,000 customers -- who are very happy that the Buttonmania dream lives on.
