Buttonmania's New Beginnings &
Goodbye from Kate
Photo: Prince & Mercer
On Thursday 22nd December I will be handing over my 100 year old button and buckle making equipment, along with my lovely set of drawers and boxes, filled to the brim with all my stock, collected over 21 years -- to the new proud owners.
My how time flies when you are having fun. I feel very lucky to have found my niche in life. I certainly didn't grow up thinking I wanted to be a button maker. However, it has been the most rewarding occupation with so much variety both in the jobs and in all my lovely customers who, in time, have become friends.
My space in the Nicholas Building that used to be the Ballroom has been a joy to work from. I never felt shut in. And the light, airy atmosphere always made it a pleasure to come to work. I have certainly enjoyed the bagpipes especially coming down Swanston St.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your loyalty and support over the years. And thanks to the Melbourne City Council and staff.
I know I am leaving Buttonmania in good hands, and hope I get to see you from time to time in Highett. As quite a few of you know, I am walking in Scotland next year, so I will say bye for now and go (into training!) for a walk. I mastered buttons; now I need to master hiking.
Buttonmania moves to Highett
New owners - Denise, Edwina and Jean -- are excited to let you know Buttonmania will be relocating. Our new home is conveniently located in Highett, Victoria. Easily accessible from trains and plenty of parking for those driving -- and of course online and postal orders will continue. We'll be opening the doors at our new home in January 2017.
